    Bengaluru, April 16, 2024: Veteran Kannada actor, producer, and director Bungle Shama Rao Dwarakanath, affectionately known as Dwarakish, breathed his last today at the age of 81. The iconic Kannada actor Dwarakish, who had a multifaceted career in the Kannada film industry, succumbed to a cardiac arrest at his residence in Electronic City, Bengaluru.

    Dwarakish began his journey as a supporting actor and swiftly gained prominence for his comedic roles. His debut film, Veera Sankalpa (1964), catapulted him to fame, and he soon became synonymous with laughter. His wit and timing endeared him to audiences, placing him on par with other comedy legends of his era, including Balakrishna.

    However, Dwarakish’s talents extended beyond acting. He transitioned into producing and directing, leaving an indelible mark on Sandalwood. Notable films like Bhagyavantharu, Manku Thimma, Nyaya Ellide, and Nee Bareda Kadambari bear his creative imprint. With 19 directorial ventures and nearly 50 productions, he stood as a stalwart in the industry.

    His collaboration with Kannada superstar Vishnuvardhan yielded memorable films such as Apthamithra, Kalla Kulla, Prachanda Kulla, and Avala Hejje. Their camaraderie extended beyond the screen, reflecting a deep bond.

    Rajinikanth Remembers his friend Kannada actor Dwarakish

    Tamil cinema icon Rajinikanth expressed his grief on social media, saying, “The demise of my long-time dear friend Dwarakish is very painful to me. Starting as a comedian, he elevated himself to become a prolific producer and director. Fond memories flood my mind. My heartfelt condolences to his family and dear ones.”

    Dwarakish’s legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of cinephiles, and his contributions to Kannada cinema remain etched in time.
