December 20, 2025: Kochi, December 20, 2025: Malayalam cinema lost one of its most iconic figures today as Sreenivasan, acclaimed actor, scriptwriter, and filmmaker, passed away at the age of 69. He had been battling cardiac and other health issues.

He is survived by his wife, Vimala Sreenivasan, and their sons, actors Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan.

Born on April 6, 1956, in Pattiam near Thalassery, Kannur district, Sreenivasan’s illustrious career spanned nearly five decades, during which he acted in over 225 films. He was widely celebrated for his unique ability to blend sharp social satire with relatable storytelling, leaving an indelible mark on Malayalam cinema.

Some of his most iconic screenplays include Sandesham, Azhakiya Ravanan, Varavelpu, Nadodikattu, and Thalayanamanthram. As a director, his films Vadakkunokkiyanthram and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala received both critical and commercial acclaim, further cementing his legacy.

Throughout his career, Sreenivasan was honored with numerous awards, including a National Film Award and six Kerala State Film Awards, recognizing his contributions to the industry and his skill in storytelling.

His cremation is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at his residence in Kandanadu near Thripunitura.

Sreenivasan’s work continues to influence Malayalam cinema, inspiring a generation of actors, writers, and directors. His ability to reflect society through humor, empathy, and insight made him a true cinematic legend.
