In Panchayat season 2, his motivation continues the same, but his strategy has changed dramatically. Abhishek, who previously portrayed the ignorant city boy trapped in village bureaucracy against his will, now walks with a light skip in his step.

Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, this comedy-drama series will feature Jitendra Kumar in the lead role, along with actors like Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav who will also be featured in the second season.

The way Jitendra performs Abhishek also undergoes a transformation– from the wide-eyed, perpetually frustrated young man ‘stuck’ in Phulera for work experience, Abhishek becomes the more confident and assertive sacheev (panchayat secretary) who delves even deeper into the troubles that plague rural India.

The show Panchayat, written by Chandan Kumar and directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, retains its humour and satire in this season. Egos continue to clash and anger reigns supreme in the quaint village of Phulera where anything could be blown out of proportion at a moment’s notice– especially when the cynical Bhushan (Durgesh Kumar) is involved.

Ever since its release in 2020, Panchayat became an instant hit on the OTT platform thanks to its talented star cast and unique plotline. The series revolves around the life of Abhishek, played by Jitendra Kumar, an engineering graduate, who is forced to take up a job as a Panchayat secretary in a remote village, Phulera, situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh due to a lack of better job opportunities.

Panchayat is a comedy-drama, which captures the journey of an engineering graduate Abhishek, who for lack of a better job option joins as secretary of a panchayat office in a remote village of Uttar Pradesh. Stuck between crazy villagers & a difficult village lifestyle Abhishek starts his job with the sole motivation of getting out of there as soon as possible, for which he even prepares for CAT.

According to the synopsis shared by streamer Amazon Original, Panchayat Season 2 will take the audience through the hilarious and tumultuous journey of Abhishek. After facing several hardships in adjusting to the new life and routine in the village of Phulera, Abhishek, aka, Kumar has now finally settled in the life of Phulera. The series slowly unfolds the equation between a handful of colourful characters.

In the inaugural episode of the first season of Panchayat, the newly appointed secretary of Phulera village’s governing council runs into an elderly man who can’t afford to buy cooking oil. The man hasn’t been paid for his labour, he tells Abhishek (Jitendra Kumar). Abhishek, having barely arrived in Phulera, tells the old man to come and see him in his office.

Widening the entertainment from season 1, the series delves deeper into the equation between Pradhan, Vikas, Prahlad and Manju Devi along with Abhishek who has now settled well into the life of Phulera.

The second season Panchayat shares with the first edition droll humour, mild satire, sharply observed characters and winning performances. The crew – including writer Chandan Kumar and director Deepak Kumar Mishra – is mostly unchanged, while Rinky is played by a new actor (Sanvikaa). But otherwise, Panchayat remains a series about a jolly corner of rural India where storms rage in teacups and molehills pretend to be mountains.

As the characters navigate through the complexities in the village, a new opposition enters Phulera and is set to cause havoc in their lives.

With the release of Panchayat, the collaboration between Amazon Prime Video and The Viral Fever (TVF) has strengthened further, after the success of “Panchayat Season 1” and “Hostel Daze”.

Actor Jitendra Kumar is better known for his portrayal of Jeetu Bhaiya in TVF’s Kota Factory and Aman Tripathi in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. The actor won a Filmfare OTT award in the category of “Best Actor in a comedy series” for his performance in Amazon Prime’s Panchayat.

Worth a mention are Chandan Roy as Vikas and Faisal Malik as Prahlad Pandey who are inimitable in their roles, especially Malik in a truly heart wrenching scene towards the end. Many of the season’s laughs come from Roy and Malik and the way they interact with their surroundings.

The primary cast aside, one performance that stood out was Ashok Pathak as the demure Vinod in ‘Kranti’. Through Vinod, and several other instances across the show, Panchayat explores how power– be it the thirst for it or the determination to keep it in one’s grasp– hurts the underprivileged the most often making them scapegoats.
