Chennai, 6th January 2026 : Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan has hit an unexpected snag just days before its grand release on January 9. With the film still awaiting its censor certificate, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has informed the Madras High Court that the movie will undergo another round of reviews—this time by a newly appointed committee.
The makers of Jana Nayagan had initially approached the Madras High Court after the film failed to receive its censor certificate, despite having submitted it over a month ago. The court hearing, originally scheduled for January 6, has now been postponed to January 7 at 2:15 PM. The last-minute delay has raised concerns about the film’s timely release, especially with just days remaining before its planned debut.
Fresh Review Creates Uncertainty for Vijay’s Final Film
The Central Board of Film Certification informed the court that the film will now be reviewed by a new committee. This news has added another layer of uncertainty to Jana Nayagan’s release, as the Tamil version of the film must first clear the certification process before its dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada can be approved.
The postponement has come as a blow to the production team, especially considering that the CBFC had already suggested a list of cuts and muted dialogues back on December 19. With the clock ticking, the new committee’s review could make or break the film’s pan-India rollout.
Advance Bookings for Jana Nayagan Accelerates

Despite the certification hiccups, audience enthusiasm for Jana Nayagan remains high. Advance bookings have already picked up steam in select regions, with first-day first-show (FDFS) screenings in Karnataka selling out quickly. Venues such as Gopalan Grand Mall, V Cinema, and Cinephile HSR Layout are seeing massive demand, with early bird tickets snapped up on BookMyShow.
In Kerala, early ticket sales have also shown promise, indicating that Vijay’s fan base is growing steadily in the state. However, multiplexes in major metros like Mumbai and Delhi have yet to open bookings, as they await the official CBFC clearance. Overseas, the film has already crossed Rs 25 crore in advance sales.
Vijay’s Final Film: A Political Milestone
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan marks a significant milestone for Vijay, as it will be his final film before making his full-time political debut. The film also boasts a star-studded ensemble, including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain.
As the clock ticks down to the next court hearing, fans are on edge, waiting to see if the film will clear its last hurdle in time for the much-awaited release. With the film’s status hanging in the balance, all eyes are now on whether the fresh review committee will wrap up in time, or if Jana Nayagan will face an eleventh-hour postponement.
